Email marketing happens to be one of the most useful and profitable methods of online marketing – a fact that few ecommerce store owners would not be aware of.
Klaviyo is an email marketing app/service that I have reviewed in this article below.
Before I begin the review, I'd like to briefly mention another matter that most online marketers and store owners will find useful. While email marketing, as I mentioned earlier, is a very useful marketing method, there are many other methods that can be quite beneficial too, as illustrated in this infographic.
Coming back to Klaviyo, and before going into its full review, you should know that my overall impression of this app is that it is designed to be more of an add-on for popular ecommerce platforms and other online services rather than as a stand-alone email marketing service. You will find my logic behind this in the conclusion of the article.
Contact Manager – one of the very basic features of any email marketing service that Klaviyo provides as well
List Segmentation – this is a quite valuable feature that the app supports
Template Selection – no ready-made templates are provided – a serious lacking for an email marketing service
Template Editor – this is probably one of the strongest features provided by Klaviyo
Image Hosting – no support is provided by the app
Social Media Marketing – another highly useful and beneficial feature which the app does not support
Autoresponder – one more essential and useful feature that is supported by the app
Surveys – one more essential feature for marketing operations that is not supported by the app
RSS Feed Integration – a feature that is available on the app
Google Analytics Integration – another useful feature that is supported
A/B Split Testing – this advanced marketing feature is available with the app
Spam Score Checking – a critical email marketing feature that the app does not support
Reporting/Stats – Klaviyo allows you to generate various types of reports
Other Noteworthy Features
An API based email template editor, a suit of other email marketing APIs and close, direct integration with some of the leading ecommerce platforms like Magento, Shopify, Volusion, BigCommerce and WooCommerce are particularly noteworthy features of Klaviyo.
Other than just ecommerce platforms, Klaviyo also offers direct integration with a number of other online services and apps under the Support and Help Desk, CRM, Payment Processing and other categories.
The paid plans are based on the number of email contacts and start at $25/mo. and increase with the number of contacts.
Free Plan – a free plan is offered that allows you to send up to 500 emails per month, to a maximum of 250 subscribers – both very small allowances as compared to most other competing services that typically offer thousands of emails on their free accounts.

Like I mentioned in the beginning of this review, I find Klaviyo to be more of an app/plug-in suitable for integration with ecommerce platforms rather than a full-featured email marketing service.
With the lack of many essential and useful email marketing features like ready-made templates, support for social media marketing, surveys and polls etc., I find it really difficult to recommend this app as your primary, go-to email marketing service.
Still, if your ecommerce store is hosted at any of the platforms mentioned above under the Other Noteworthy Features section, you just might want to check Klaviyo out.
