Since 1998, CDGcommerce has been building a business culture that revolves around minimal fees, a stunning gateway, wonderful customer service and interchange plus pricing. The crazy part about working with CDGcommerce is that all of their features come bundled up in a tempting $10 per month base fee package.
With more than $1.5 billion ecommerce transactions worldwide, it’s nice knowing that you have a merchant account provider on your side to help keep costs low and walk you through the tumultuous credit card processing landscape. Online business is a game of numbers, and CDGcommerce knows that picking your own services after the initial per month fee is the best way to go.
For example, if you don’t want to pay for a payment gateway, opt out of it. If you’d rather use a payment gateway like Authorize.net, that’s an option too. With all that in mind, let’s take a look at why CDGcommerce is one of the best options for you when looking for merchant account providers.
CDGcommerce Ease of Use
Three interfaces are offered when you go with CDGcommerce: Online, swipe and mobile. Swipe is what they call a retail option. Each of them are easy to use, and many companies end up integrating all of the solutions for selling online, through mobile devices and in a brick and mortar store.
Starting out with the online version, it's all accessible from a browser, and the Quantum-enabled merchant account is activated within an hour. Therefore, you have the ability to get started collecting payments much faster than you would with other accounts. The free setup, free gateway and month to month contracts are enough for me to say that it's one of the more transparent options out there. In addition, if the system doesn't seem to be working out for you, no one is going to force you to stick around.
The merchant reporting and control panel serves as an incredible module with lots of features. It reveals reports on all transactions, while also covering graphical analytics for the visual learners out there. Risk management runs in the backend to stop fraudulent transactions and keep out users who are only there to steal from you. The automated alerts alleviate your worries, and the Quickbooks integration allows for instant exports.
The retail package is simple and future-focused. CDGcommerce doesn't have one terminal they stick with. Instead, it rolls with future changes, so a terminal next year may be completely different from what they give you today. What's nice is that you pay $79 per year for the processing, but all the equipment is free.
Therefore, when a new model comes out, or when something breaks along the way, CDGcommerce sends you a new one within 24 hours, completely destroying the long waits that most warranty programs force you to go through.
Going along with the trend of free stuff from CDGcommerce, you gain access to a free mobile app and swiper. This is compatible with Android and Apple devices, and all it requires is for you to download the compatible app with your devices. Everyone compares mobile payments to Square, but I would argue that the interface from CDGcommerce is comparable, if not a little better on some steps.
The single screen payment entry doesn't require any navigation from the customer, while the automated tip calculation and emailed receipts cut out any extra work for you and the customer. The Bluetooth printer compatibility can come in handy for some merchants, but we particularly enjoy the inventory management that integrates directly with your retail, mobile and online solutions.
CDGcommerce Features and Services
With a focus on ecommerce and small to midsize businesses, CDGcommerce makes it easy for you to understand and abide by PCI Compliance rules. They also offer strong security measures for keeping customer information safe. What else can you expect to receive in terms of products and services?
- You get standard merchant accounts.
- At $15 per month you can go with an Authorize.net payment gateway. They also provide the Quantum Gateway for free. All you need is an internet-connected computer to process credit cards.
- CDGcommerce gives out terminal leases for free, with the exception of a $79 annual insurance expense. Keep in mind that you must return the terminal upon cancelling your plan.
- CDGcommerce gives out free mobile card readers.
- The optional security service is called CDG360, and it only costs you $15 per month. This gives you $100k in data theft and breach security, along with staff awareness training, security scans and more.
CDGcommerce Fees and Pricing Structure
This is where CDGcommerce really shines, since the only fee you have to fork over is the $10 statement fee. This is pretty awesome for those who like transparency and low costs.
What are the other fees you can expect?
- An additional $15 per month if you opt for Authorize.net
- The optional security package is another $15 per month
- If you require a credit card terminal you must pay a $79 annual insurance fee
- Wireless terminals require a $35 setup fee, along with a $19.95 wireless fee and the $79 annual insurance fee
Fees they won’t force upon you:
- PCI compliance fees
- Monthly minimum fees
- Setup expenses
- Early termination fees
- Charges for terminals and gateways
The company provides three packages that are wonderful for transparency:
- Online – 1.95% + $0.30
- Mobile – 1.70% + $0.25
- Retail – 1.70% + $0.25
The upfront pricing is one of the main reasons you can't go wrong with CDGcommerce. Hidden fees are not a thing with the company, and although it still takes some research to figure out which of the plans is going to be most affordable for you, at least you know they aren't trying to hide anything from you.
Although it’s always wise to walk through the necessary steps to cancel your account and stop billing, no termination fees are required in order to cancel your account with CDGcommerce. In fact, you basically have a monthly contract that can be cancelled at any time. It doesn’t get any better than that.
CDGcommerce Customer Service
Customer support at CDGcommerce is the best you can find, with 24/7 access to the knowledgeable team through email, phone and live chat. I’ve found that when I send an email to the company they usually respond within 24 hours, and the people you chat with are always willing to help in a friendly and professional manner.
You’ll also notice that the company has nothing but praise throughout the internet review sites. Considering CDGcommerce has been around for quite some time, and you’d expect some sort of bad mouthing to come along, this is something to give the company praise on.
Are they transparent?
CDGcommerce uses an in-house sales team, instead of a third-party contracted sales force, meaning that the people you talk with are knowledgeable and not going to force you into anything. All fees and contract obligations are clearly explained on the website, and you can take a look at some of the resources to see how the whole system works.
It’s worth noting that you may stumble upon a few instances where it looks like CDGcommerce sneaks in some hidden fees. For example, the terminals are advertised as free, but then you have to pay for annual insurance. At first glance, I thought this looked a little fishy, but the truth is that they reveal this information to you right on the website.
You don’t have to worry about gimmicks, pushy salespeople or a system that forces you into goofy pricing structures like the tiered model.
Who Should be Using CDGcommerce?
Given the fact that CDGcommerce has a base rate of $10 per month, the merchant account provider is one of the best options for small to midsize businesses. If you run a company with low volume, you really can’t go wrong here. Not to mention, the lack of early termination fees means that you can test out the service and cancel if you’re not completely satisfied.
Keep in mind that this does not eliminate large companies, since CDGcommerce has both the resources and tools to help you bring in high sales volume, and you can upgrade to different payments gateways and security plans.
The one area that kinda irks me is the fact that CDGcommerce advertises the interchange-plus pricing model. As some of you may know, it’s the most transparent pricing strategy out there, keeping merchants clear on what they are paying for, instead of bunching statements into tiers with hidden fees. Unfortunately, CDGcommerce doesn’t actually start you on an interchange-plus plan, so you are required to reach out to the company and request it. It seems a little tedious to me, but the support team is friendly enough to comply to your demands without a fight. Other than that, the low costs, wonderful customer support and free terminals make CDGcommerce a force to be reckoned with.
