The week is coming to an end, it has been an interesting week in the ecommerce industry, a lot has happened for the most popular ecommerce platforms. This week saw Facebook partnering with Shopify to offer buy button, Bigcommerce hire a new CEO, CoreCommerce updates their system and much more.
Facebook wants its ads to sell you stuff directly so you never have to click away to another app or site. Until now, Facebook was testing a Buy Button that does that with just a few selected test merchants, but now its opening it up to more retailers on Shopify‘s ecommerce platform. Bigcommerce, an international startup that provides online retailing software to small businesses, named former HomeAway Chief Operating Officer Brent Bellm as its new CEO on Monday. At $600 billion a year in sales, food and beverage is by far the largest retail category in the US by a wide margin. However, it's also the category that has been the least disrupted by e-commerce; less than 1% of food and beverage sales currently occur online, according to BI Intelligence's estimates.
