3. Gelato – Best for Global Shipping

gelato homepage - best print on demand companies

One of the most significant challenges print-on-demand presents is that reaching your intended target audiences can be difficult.

Warehouses are usually based in the US or Asia. As a result, the shipping times for those operating outside these areas are often longer, putting them on the back foot.

In light of that, weโ€™re pleased to introduce Gelato: The print-on-demand company with over 130 production locations worldwide, including spots across Europe, North and South America, Asia, and Australia.

Gelato offers print-on-demand items within the following product categories:

  • Apparel
  • Wall art
  • Phone cases
  • Mugs
  • Totebags
  • Wallpaper
  • Photo books
  • Calendars
  • Cards

Its selection of products isn't the most extensive. Still, it's plenty for enthusiastic designers and illustrators looking to customize and sell several high-quality products.ย

Gelato is free to use and allows you to set your own prices. Itโ€™s also easy to integrate the platform with your favorite eCommerce solutions.

Pricing ๐Ÿ’ฐ

As we just mentioned, Gelato is entirely free to use. Its free plan gives you access to Gelato's complete product catalog.

You can also connect two eCommerce stores and register two account users. While this will be sufficient for brand-new businesses, it may later be worth investing in one of Gelatoโ€™s paid plans.

Gelato+ costs only $14.99 per month and increases the number of stores you can connect with to ten. In addition, youโ€™ll benefit from extra design tools like premium mockups, the product personalization tool, image filters, premium fonts, and more. Most importantly, you get 30% off shipping.

The Gelato+ Gold plan for $99 per month makes shipping even cheaper with 50% off (after you hit 50 orders per month) and allows you to set shipping margins.

Gelato Print Quality

Gelato goes above and beyond to ensure exceptional results with all of its products designs. The company uses state-of-the-art printing technology, as well as quality assurance methods to ensure you get excellent prints every time.

Gelato also has fantastic guides and resources to help ensure beginners upload the right files for excellent production.

New Features

In 2023, Gelato introduced a new discount option, giving customers 5% off when they buy two or more of the same item, or 10% off when they purchase 3 of the same products.

Designers also got a new drag-and-drop design tool, and updated mock-up studio for wall art. Plus, the company introduced branded label and insert options for creators.

Pros ๐Ÿ‘

  • Local production in 32 countries ensures faster, more sustainable product delivery.
  • Gelato doesn't impose a minimum order threshold.
  • Pricing is relatively affordable, though shipping prices can quickly add up.
  • A mobile app enables you to manage orders on the go, track shipments, and access basic analytics.
  • Extensive wall art selection

Cons ๐Ÿ‘Ž

  • Limited product selection (over 150 categories in total, but categories are limited to apparel and basic stationary)
  • You canโ€™t access special printing technologies like embroidery or engraving

Best for โœ…

Gelato is ideal for sellers looking to get started with the main print on demand categories like wallart, apparel, mugs, especially if youโ€™re targeting global audiences.

Gelato with its widespread production locations keeps your carbon footprint low and ensures faster shipping times – win-win!

4. Redbubble – Best Print-on-Demand Service for Artists

redbubble print on demand service

Redbubble is another very well-known print on demand site that comes from Australia. This online business is all about giving independent creators and artists a way to sell their creations on the web.

The marketplace is packed full of various products that help you to make your voice heard.

The Redbubble platform is a great option for designers and creators from all backgrounds, because youโ€™ll be able to find an audience thatโ€™s suitable for you, no matter where you come from.

There are more than 60 items to choose from, including:

  • Notebooks
  • Scarves
  • T-shirts
  • Smartphone cases
  • Duvet covers
  • Stickers

Redbubble already has a huge following with lots of customers for you to tap into, so you can avoid some of the hard work involved with expanding your own online brand.

Additionally, creativity and originality are definitely encouraged here. You can even use Redbubble in a selection of languages, so you donโ€™t have to worry about missing out regardless of where your audience might be.

The Redbubble platform is incredibly easy to use, and products can be shipped worldwide in most cases.

While Redbubble doesnโ€™t integrate with other website platforms, using the companyโ€™s platform isnโ€™t too bad itself.

Just remember that you wonโ€™t be able to use this service on your own website. On the plus side, you can get your payments through PayPal and direct bank deposit very easily.

Pricing ๐Ÿ’ฐ

Like with many print on demand companies, you pay for the base price of the item, and the shipping and fulfillment costs to get your item to your customer.

You get to choose the markup cost for your product, so you can also control a lot of your own profits too. Whatโ€™s more, getting your earnings is quick and easy too.

The base price you pay on Redbubble covers the cost of the service fee for creating and listing your items, and the price of actually making the items you want to sell. Base prices can vary because they depend on things like where youโ€™re going to be sending your items to.

Youโ€™ll need to consider various other factors that could affect how much you spend too, such as artist production costs, and how many customizations you want on your clothing.

Prices on Redbubble can also change pretty frequently, so itโ€™s hard to build a predictable business model.

Redbubble Print Quality

Opinions about Redbubbleโ€™s quality vary drastically around the world.

The company is relatively good at delivering high-quality items in general, but print colors can vary depending on the files you upload to the platform.

Some artists have argued that the prints on apparel donโ€™t completely match the files theyโ€™ve created for the platform.

New Features

Redbubble has focused heavily on artist wellbeing in the last few years, creating new programs like its โ€œArtist Ambassadorsโ€ initiative, to draw attention to new creators.

The company also expanded its partnership with Rokit, to enhance user experience and drive revenue with AI.

Pros ๐Ÿ‘

  • Tons of customization options to sell whatever you like
  • Sell virtually any creative item you can think of
  • Existing marketplace makes it easy to find customers
  • Easy to use back-end for sellers
  • Good quality products most of the time

Cons ๐Ÿ‘Ž

  • There are some bad apples when it comes to quality
  • Base prices can change very quickly
  • Difficult to build a memorable brand

Best for โœ…

If you want to sell your print on demand products online, but you donโ€™t want to go through the hassle of setting up your own website and doing your own marketing, then Redbubble is an excellent choice.

You can create your items for sale with ease, and you donโ€™t have to worry about any marketing, because youโ€™re already using the Redbubble existing audience.

5. Sellfy – Best Service With Online Store Builder Included

sellfy - best print on demand companies

Sellfy is a popular ecommerce platform, especially among entrepreneurs in Europe and Asia. Sellfy initially entered the market focusing on digital items but has since expanded into print-on-demand.

For this reason, their approach differs somewhat from traditional print providers.

Theyโ€™re more about building an entire business, not just a product.

Most notably, besides offering print-on-demand services, they also provide all the tools you need to set up a beautiful storefront.

From which you can sell physical products, digital downloads, and subscriptions.

Sellfy also offers a range of marketing and analytics services. For example, you can send product updates to customers via email, create discount codes, and upsell items on your checkout page.

You can also see which items have sold the most and where your consumers are coming from.

Sellfy takes care of all the product shipping and manufacturing of your items. You can also customize labels, text, graphics, and the color of your merchandise.

This doesnโ€™t cost extra as it's part of Sellfyโ€™s product creation process. However, the different customization options available depend on the product type.

There are also embroidery options, for which a one-time file conversion fee of $6.50 applies. Sellfy manually assesses the file during this conversion to re-design it as an embroidery pattern with the correct thread type, stitch type, and design.

Then, once youโ€™re happy with the final design of your product, you can instantly list it on your online store.

At this point, itโ€™s worth mentioning, once you have a Sellfy account, youโ€™re not limited to selling via your Sellfy store.

You can embed product links anywhere, including websites youโ€™ve created on other platforms like Squarespace, Wix, WordPress, and more.

Product options include:

  • Sweatshirts
  • Hoodies
  • Shirts
  • Tank tops
  • Bags
  • Phone cases
  • Mugs
  • Stickers
  • Posters

In addition to these items, Sellfy has recently released a range of eco-friendly and sustainable products, including cotton tote bags and eco-friendly phone cases.

Pricing ๐Ÿ’ฐ

While you start with a base cost for manufacturing the product, Sellfy doesnโ€™t take a commission or charge shipping costs.

Instead, when customers place their order, they pay for the item, including the tax and shipping cost. You then add your profit margin on top of the base price.

Adding items to your online shop doesnโ€™t cost anything, but you pay a monthly fee to maintain your online storefront. If you opt into annual billing, youโ€™ll save nearly a third of that cost.

Thereโ€™s a 14-day free trial and after that, prices range from $22 a month to $199 per month.

The premium plans unlock email marketing, a custom domain name, and you can sell unlimited items.

However, the more expensive the pricing tier, the more product upselling and marketing options you get access to.

More costly plans also lift the sales threshold. The starter plan entitles you to sell up to $10k in sales per year, and the most expensive premium plan allows for up to $200k.

Sellfy Print Quality

Like most POD companies, Sellfy adheres to strong quality standards and practices.

However, all items are printed with the Direct to Garment technique, which means you may not get the best results with certain jobs, depending on the files you choose.

We recommend ordering sample products in advance before you start selling items in bulk on your ecommerce shop.

New Features

Sellfy has introduced a host of updates in the last couple of years for business leaders, offering new ecommerce customization tools, with innovative themes, as well as a cart abandonment tool to minimize lost sales.

The company has also added new guides and resources to the Sellfy university.

Pros ๐Ÿ‘

  • You can accept multiple payment options, including Stripe, PayPal, credit card or debit cards, and digital wallets.
  • You get access to built-in marketing tools, including email marketing, popups, and discounts.
  • You can launch a customized online storefront.
  • Over 40 color variations and white label customization options are available when it comes to product creation.
  • Sellfy doesnโ€™t charge a commission or transaction fee.
  • Suppose you donโ€™t like your Sellfy storefront. In that case, you can embed your items on any other website, including adding product cards on Youtube videos.

Cons ๐Ÿ‘Ž

  • Limited integrations are available
  • Some users complain of glitches when adding product images
  • If your sales exceed the plan threshold, youโ€™ll have to upgrade to a more expensive plan

Best for โœ…

If youโ€™re looking for an all-in-one tool to launch your website, Sellfy is a good choice. Here you can create your items and storefront from the convenience of one platform and benefit from all the marketing and customization tools it comes with.

Gooten does make it a little easier to figure out how much youโ€™re going to spend on things like creation and shipping with a full product catalogue.

You can go to the catalog and see things like the price for acrylic blocks, which start at $17.10, and the price of accent mugs starting at $2.99. Gooten is a little pricey compared to some options, but it offers a lot of alternatives for your designs.

Gooten Print Quality

Gooten has extensive quality assurance systems in place to ensure every product is as attractive and durable as possible.

However, unlike some alternative print on demand companies, Gooten does work with a variety of manufacturers, which means some items can have a slightly different quality than others.

Itโ€™s best to regularly check the quality when selling items long-term.

New Features

Gooten announced the arrival of a new collection of print on demand products in 2024, including branded products from Champion, Lane Seven, C2 Sport, and more.

How to Choose The Best Print on Demand Company?

Print-on-demand companies are the dedicated experts online that can bring your fashion selling vision to life.

With these POD providers, you can access a range of print-on-demand items, from hoodies and t-shirts, to phone cases for your online shop.

Either through a stand-alone solution or a plugin for a service like Shopify, you can then connect with your print-on-demand provider, giving them your designs to put onto different items.

When a customer purchases an item from your shop, your print-on-demand company takes over the fulfilment part of your ecommerce journey, printing the item and sending it to a client.

In simple terms, print on demand business providers are essential suppliers of white-label items that you can easily sell through dropshipping.

When choosing the best print on demand company, you can even go beyond clothes to things like stickers, tote bags and more.

Print on Demand Marketplace vs POD Company

Before we start looking at some of the best print on demand companies, itโ€™s worth noting there are different ways to start selling your custom products online.

Most POD solutions fall into one of two categories: marketplaces, or companies.

Print-on-demand marketplaces, like Redbubble, Zazzle, and Society6, donโ€™t integrate with your online shop, or an existing marketplace like Amazon.

Instead, they give you a pre-built environment where you can create a storefront and sell to an existing audience. This eliminates the need to set up your own website and manage sales yourself.

However, while selling through a marketplace is simpler, youโ€™ll often have less control over branding and pricing structures. Plus, you may find it difficult to stand out if the marketplace you choose is already quite competitive.

POD services or companies like Printful and Printify integrate with the ecommerce stores you already have on platforms like Shopify, Wix, or Squarespace. While they lack the networking and community benefits of marketplaces, they give you more control over building a memorable brand.

You get complete control over how you sell your items, market your online business, and develop your brand. Plus, thereโ€™s less direct competition to fight against for attention.

Global Shipping and Fulfillment Insights on Products

One of the most significant things youโ€™ll need to consider when choosing a print-on-demand company is their approach to fulfillment. POD vendors handle order fulfillment on your behalf, producing products, packaging them, and shipping them to your customers.

However, not every POD business will deliver the same fulfillment service.

Many of the leading companies in the landscape can ship products worldwide, but they may only have fulfillment and printing partners in a specific location, like China, where production costs are lower.

This means that it often takes a lot longer for your products to reach your customers. If you want to gain an edge over the competition, itโ€™s worth choosing a fulfillment partner who has local centers in the countries closest to your target audience.

For instance, Gelato has local printers in more than 30 countries, to help reduce carbon emissions, and speed up fulfillment times.

Printing Companies: Your Print Mockup Company

Print mockup companies are essential to the journey, as they help you to determine what kind of items you can sell on your ecommerce store.

With a mockup business, youโ€™ll be able to use templates and other crucial tools to ensure that your products are going to look their best. After all, if you want to keep your profit margins high, you canโ€™t afford to sell sub-par products.

Placeit stands out as perhaps the most popular mockup business there is. Designed to help people using print-on-demand services to create everything from sweaters to leggings, this business makes it easy to see what your designs will look like in action.

Placeit can even help you to build your brand online with logo designs and templates that help set your store apart from the rest of the competitors online.

The Placeit team delivers the perfect blend of technology and design to provide business leaders with the support they need to start selling amazing products everywhere.

The price for Placeit starts with a free trial, where you can test exactly what the company has on offer. After that, you can choose between an unlimited subscription, for $19.95 per month, or $99.95 per year. Thereโ€™s no minimum for how long you need to maintain your subscription with the brand.

Additionally, with Placeit, you can also choose a single purchase option, rather than a subscription. Here, you just pay for what you need.

For instance, if you just want to start off with a single T-shirt design, you can pay for that item without committing to anything long-term.

Since setting up your brand is often crucial for success in the retail world, using a mockup tool like Placeit can help you to build the reputation you really need for your company.

Predictions for 2024

In the last few years, the print on demand market has exploded in popularity, as more members of the creator economy look for monetization options.

The rise of the industry has brought with it the introduction of new and innovative solutions and tools intended to support sellers.

For instance, in 2023 and 2024, weโ€™re seeing an increase in the number of companies leveraging AI tools for things like image optimization and creation.

Printful has an AI image optimizer tool which can automatically enhance the quality of your uploaded files.

Printify has a generative AI system that can create unique images based on text prompts.

At the same time, companies are becoming more flexible, integrating with a wider range of sales channels, including existing marketplaces and social media platforms.

Many even offer access to their own API, so companies can create custom automated workflows.

Plus, weโ€™re seeing an increase in the number of companies striving to empower sellers with more innovative marketing tools, mockup generators, and automation options for everything from pricing to shipping selection.

As we move forward into 2024 and beyond, the print-on-demand world will only become more innovative and intuitive.

Which Print on Demand Company Should You Choose to Increase Profit Margins?

Print on demand companies clearly come in a wide range of sizes and options to suit different online businesses. The right one for you will depend on a lot of different things.

For instance, do you want to just sell your own custom beanies and iPhone cases in an existing marketplace? If so, then you could consider an option like Redbubble.

On the other hand, if you want to see how it works to build a real thriving business online with your own custom storefront, you need something a bit more flexible.

Printful is the go-to option for anyone who wants to develop a full ecommerce website, complete with integrations with leading eCommerce websites like Shopify and WooCommerce.

The good news about print on demand sites, is that whether youโ€™re selling swimwear or tapestries, itโ€™s very easy to get started.

With mockup companies available to help you see what your products are going to look like in action, you can create a design that speaks to your audience and start testing the waters to see whether your clients will actually want to buy from you.

Most print on demand companies also make it a lot easier to sell your items online.

Youโ€™ll still be responsible for designing your products and marketing them through influencers and social media. However, unlike other seller platforms like Etsy, you donโ€™t have to actually create and ship your products to your customers.

If youโ€™re ready to start getting your merch into the market, there are tons of excellent POD companies out there with upfront pricing structures to help you get started.

Some print on demand solutions are excellent for beginners in the world of online sales because they automatically integrate with tools like WordPress and Shopify. Other websites act as dedicated marketplaces where you can highlight your brand to potential customers and instantly access a wide selection of buyers.

When youโ€™re determining which print on demand solution to use, from Printful to Printify, and beyond, make sure that you take all of the important factors into account, from how much you might spend on subscription and transaction fees, to what itโ€™s going to take to build a brand and market your products to consumers.

Although thereโ€™s no one-size-fits-all option for most businesses, you can make your decision by narrowing down your choices based on what you want to accomplish with your online business.

Are you looking for excellent customer support for instance, amazing mockups so you can see your canvas prints before you put them on the web?

Or just a unique way to create your own brand online?

Thereโ€™s something for everyone in todayโ€™s marketplace for print on demand companies. Which business will you be working with going forward? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. hi Guys , i started a store on redbublle 2 years ago and failed miserably only sold 2 tshirts , what other stores similar to redbublle that i can post the designs on for free and they handle everything , i was promoting my shirts on instgram

      1. Shopify and Etsy have a subscription fee plus commission. Someone asked about a free alternative and a marketplace similar to Redbubble, where the designer could focus solely on creating designs and promoting them

  2. so far the best remains redbubble
it has its own community, and therefore many more people go around the shops on the site.
I have 8 print on demand platforms and so far the only one that has brought me anything has been redbubble.
Not to mention the practicality, you put a drawing and all the products are automatically drawn, while other sites do not allow this, but you have to draw the products one at a time.
    A nice break indeed.

  3. Hello, when you mean to pay for the costs of printing, shipping, etc. Do you mean that first they will charge me from my configured account? If it is yes, then if I do not have money in my account, the purchase made by the customer will be canceled?

Thanks in advance for your great information work.

  4. Hi! I have a question. I would like to start a POD dropship shop that focusses on apparel (baby/children). The designs I will make will be text in the Dutch language. So for me it’s best to check for a company in Holland that can fulfill my orders so that shipping time/costs are as low as possible. Do you know any good POD companies that are based in The Netherlands?

    1. Hello Jane, I don’t know any POD companies based in The Netherlands, but Printful have 2 facilities in the EU (one in Latvia and one in Spain) so shipping to the Netherlands should not take too long. Check out or Printful review for more info.

If you do find a POD company there, do make sure that the also have the fulfillment center in The Netherlands and not just the offices.
