how to integrate kajabi with shopify

Are you a Kajabi creator looking to expand your offering? If so, you may be exploring the idea of not only selling digital products like podcasts, membership sites, and online courses but also physical ones to attract more sales.

If thatโ€™s the case, your research may have led you to Shopify, the eCommerce platform used by more than 4.3m websites.

This guide will walk you through how to integrate Kajabi and Shopify.

As you may know, there aren't any direct Kajabi integrations that enable you to connect your Shopify account.

However, there are a couple of options open to you:

  1. Sell physical products using Kajabi but fulfill orders via Shopify
  2. Embed a Shopify button on your Kajabi website

I hope the guide gives you a better idea of which of the two options is best for you. Of course, your budget and needs will determine which of the two options you choose:

  • Selling physical products via Kajabi but fulfilling them on Shopify is worth considering if you're a small business wanting to sell one-off products (not product collections) and benefit from Shopifyโ€™s fulfillment features.
  • Alternatively, if you're an online business and want to list your Shopify product collections on your Kajabi storefront, youโ€™re better off using a Shopify Buy Button.

Our guide walks you through both, so hopefully, by the end of this blog post, you'll have a better idea about which option is best for you.

Let's dive in!

1. Selling Physical Products Using Kajabi but Fulfilling via Shopify

If you want to run your entire sales operation on Kajabi while fulfilling orders through Shopify, listen up because this might be the option for you.

More specifically, you would use a Kajabi account to:

  • Set product prices
  • Collect customer orders
  • Process payments

…And only after a customer's payment is processed will order details be passed on to your Shopify account to process and fulfill.

You may be wondering, ‘Why do it this way?'

There are several reasons:

  • Kajabi subscribers aren't charged transaction fees (on any of its three pricing plans) when they sell products, so all the money you make is yours. On the other hand, Shopify charges said fees on each pricing tier.
  • Customer data is conveniently located in one place and easily managed via your Kajabi dashboard – for example, emails, offers, coupons, and customer communications.
  • You can use Kajabiโ€™s sophisticated tools to upsell customers, for example, automated marketing campaigns and sales funnel features.

However, this method can only be used to sell one-off products (not product collections).

Itโ€™s also worth noting that where order fulfillment is concerned, Shopify has many pros. For example, depending on your subscription plan, you may be eligible for discounted shipping rates fromย Shopifyโ€™s shipping carriers.

The platform also has a handy Shipping Calculatorย to help you work out rates, which is undoubtedly worth using!ย ย

In addition, if you want to sell custom merchandise like t-shirts, tote bags, mugs, etc., you might want to explore using a POD (print-on-demand) order fulfillment service and integrating it with Shopify.

Shopify integrates with plenty of POD providers, like Printifyย orย Printful.ย

2. Using Zapier to Connect Kajabi with Shopify

As mentioned above, to integrate Kajabi and Shopify to sell physical products using Kajabi but fulfill them via Shopify, you need to use Zapier.

But in the first instance, you need to follow the instructions below step-by-step:

  1. Head to your Kajabi dashboard to create a phantom offer that isnโ€™t attached to any products youโ€™re selling. Go to your dashboardโ€™s left-side menu, then Sales โ†’ Offers.
  2. Click the New Offer button in the top right-hand corner of the page.
  3. Add a title to your offer on the next page, but donโ€™t add any products.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Once done, you can set the price of your phantom offer, including the payment method, amount, and billing frequency.
  6. Click Save and Finish
  7. Youโ€™ll then be taken to the Offer page. Click Edit Checkout in the top right corner of the Offer page of your dashboard.
  8. Go to Additional Settings.
  9. In the Login section, select Returning members must log in and check the Collect new member passwords box.
  10. Save your edits.
  11. Click the Form Fields button on the left side of your dashboard to enable you to collect customer information that will be pushed to Shopify so it can fulfill your orders.
  12. Save your changes and exit the offer settings area of your dashboard. You should now be back on the Offer page. Scroll down until you see the Post-purchase section.
  13. Select a Custom Thank You Page from the drop-down menu.

The above step is important because if you donโ€™t do this, your new customers will just be directed to your product library page and wonโ€™t see any products you sell.

Having completed the above steps, you can now use Zapier to send your customerโ€™s shipping information to Shopify.

To do this:

  1. Log into your Zapier account. If you donโ€™t have an account, set one up. Thereโ€™s a free account option or four paid ones. Thereโ€™s also a free 14-day trial (at the time of writing).
  2. Once done, you need to create what Zapier calls a Zap in the Zap Editor to set an action that triggers customer orders from Kajabi to be sent to Shopify to fulfill the order.
  3. Select New Purchase as the trigger in Kajabi, and Create Order in Shopify. So that when a customer buys a physical product from your Kajabi site, Zapier automatically sends their information to Shopify to create and fulfill the order.

If you want to bypass Zapier altogether because its free plan doesnโ€™t offer everything you need and you donโ€™t have the budget for a paid plan, thereโ€™s an alternative.

If you feel confident enough, you can use Kajabiโ€™s webhooksย to communicate between Kajabi and Shopifyโ€™s API.ย

For the uninitiated, webhooks are a way of setting up automated communication between apps – in this case, Kajabi and Shopify so that your two accounts can โ€œtalkโ€ to each other by sharing information triggered by an action.

3. Embed a Shopify Buy Button on Your Kajabi Website

Embedding a Shopify buy button on your Kajabi website is a good option for Kajabi creators who have lots of physical products to sell.

In this setup, your physical products are listed and sold on your Shopify store. However, you can still use your Kajabi website as your storefront.

The good news is you donโ€™t need a full-on Shopify store; you simply need Shopifyโ€™s Starter plan, which comes with Shopifyโ€™s checkout functionality to sell products. At the time of writing, this was $5/month.

Thereโ€™s also a free three-day trial with no credit card required.ย

How to Add a Shopify Button to Your Kajabi Store

  1. First, log into your Shopify dashboard.
  2. Once in, add the physical products you want to sell. The Shopify Help Center has a handy guide on how to do this.
  3. After youโ€™ve created your product listing, head to the Shopify App Store.
  4. In the search bar, type Buy Button channel. This free app lets you create a buy button to add to any blog or website.
  5. Click Install, and once done, click Add Sales Channel.
  6. You can then see the Buy Button tab in the left-hand menu of your Shopify dashboard.
  7. Click the Buy Button tab on the right side of the dashboard, then click Create a Buy Button.
  8. You can then choose the button type you want:
  • Product Buy Button: Recommended for selling one product
  • Collection Buy Button: Recommended for selling an entire product collection

For the purposes of this guide, we're assuming you want to add more than one product. That said,

  1. Click Collection Buy Button
  2. Youโ€™ll then see a Customize page from which you can modify your Buy Button. On this page, youโ€™ll see a choice of possible customizable actions on the left side menu.
  3. Select Add Product to Cart so that when customers click on a product, they can add it to their shopping cart.
  4. In the top right-hand corner of the Shopify dashboard, click Next.
  5. Youโ€™re then taken to the final page, where youโ€™ll see the code for your button. Copy the code by clicking the Copy Code button underneath it.
  6. Now, go to your Kajabi dashboard. From the left-side menu, go to Website โ†’ Pages.
  7. Find the page you want to add the Buy Button to from a list on the right side of the screen.
  8. This opens the Kajabi page editor. Once in the page editor, click the Add Section tab on the left-side menu.
  9. Scroll to the bottom and select Custom Code.
  10. Paste your Buy Buttonโ€™s custom code that you copied (as directed above) into the code box on the left-side menu.
  11. Click the Save button in the top right of the dashboard page.

And hey presto! Youโ€™re all set!

All the products youโ€™ve added to your Shopify collection are now visible on your Kajabi website. When your customer clicks the Buy Button, their chosen product will be added to their shopping cart.

Frequently Asked Questions

Before I bring this guide to a close, Iโ€™ll endeavor to answer some of your most frequently asked questions about integrating Kajabi and Shopify:

Iโ€™m interested in pursuing the print-on-demand option instead; how do I find out more?

First, itโ€™s best to fully understand how POD platforms work and what they can do for you. You can read our guide for more information.

However, in a nutshell, using a POD platform means youโ€™ll work with a POD supplier that offers a range of products for you to customize and sell. The beauty of this model is that you donโ€™t pay for the products until youโ€™ve made a sale.

You also donโ€™t have to worry about inventory or storage because your POD partner handles this for you.

They also manage everything post-sale: printing, order fulfillment, packaging, and shipping.ย

Can I create an online shop using Kajabi?

Yes! You can build an online store using Kajabiโ€™s ready-made website templates, which you can customize using its Website Builder tool. For example, you can add text, images, and more.

Kajabi also offers a variety of commerce tools, including being able to accept and manage payments, data analytics so you can track sales, and more.

I use Shopify but want to explore selling digital products. What can I do on Kajabi?

You can use Kajabi to create and monetize online courses, podcasts, communities, memberships, and coaching.

In the interest of balance, itโ€™s worth noting that Kajabi is just one of several popular online course platforms (including Thinkific, Udemy, and Teachable).

Are Kajabi and Shopify mobile-friendly?

Kajabi websites and landing pages are mobile-friendly.

You can even customize section layouts to optimize your website contentโ€™s positioning, padding, and alignment specifically for mobile and desktop users.ย

Shopify is also mobile friendly in that its eCommerce themes are responsive, i.e., they automatically adjust your storeโ€™s layout and content to fit any device's screen size.

My Final Thoughts

So there you have it, my guide to the two ways to marry Kajabi and Shopify to sell physical products on your Kajabi store!

Itโ€™s important to remember that you canโ€™t proceed with either platform until youโ€™ve opened an account.

At the time of writing, Kajabi offered a freeย 14-day trialย (card details required), and Shopify offered aย free 3-day trial, with no credit card needed, and $1/month for the first three months on specific plans.ย
