Like all ecommerce entrepreneurs, Shopify store owners face challenges like boosting sales rates and engaging customers.

In a bid to achieve this, you could easily spend hours manually updating product descriptions and improving product page SEO to outdo your competitors.

But what if there was an AI-powered tool that could remove the guesswork concerning which product pages work and which don’t?

This blog post takes a look at one such solution: ConvertMate.

In this ConvertMate review, we'll dive into what it is, how to get started, its features, pros, cons, and pricing.

However, if you haven’t got time to dig into the details, here are the key things to know about ConvertMate:

  • ConvertMate analyzes your store’s historical sales data to see which product descriptions prove popular and generate sales and which don’t. It then automatically updates your descriptions to improve conversion rates.
  • ConvertMate uses AI and data analytics to provide Shopify users insights into which product descriptions work and which don't, allowing them to make better-informed decisions.
  • ConvertMate is best for small to mid-sized Shopify-fuelled businesses keen to grow their brand.

Now that you have a few headlines to whet your appetite let’s dive into the details of this ConvertMate review:

What is ConvertMate?

ConvertMate Review

ConvertMate is a London-based operation founded by Boris Kwemo and Marc Régimbeau. It only launched on July 25th, 2023, so it's safe to say they're new kids on the block!

As mentioned in the intro, ConvertMate is an AI and data-driven tool that analyzes your store’s sales information and uses it to improve your product descriptions to boost sales.

It also optimizes your product page SEO (meta titles, meta descriptions, etc.) to improve your organic search engine visibility.

You can conveniently manage your ConvertMate account via your dashboard, accessible via the ConvertMate homepage (we go into how the dashboard works lower down in this review).

The aim? It’s simple. ConvertMate strives to eliminate the guesswork surrounding product description SEO and reduce the need to manually update your product pages, hopefully saving you time while increasing conversions – win-win!

ConvertMate’s website also states that it doesn’t matter whether your inventory is large or small; it guarantees a ‘unified brand voice' so that your customers get a real feel for your business.

Interestingly, its website states that using ConvertMate increases conversion rates by an average of 26%, and the average number of hours saved per month is 45 (these figures are based on tracking 1,389 products across 28 brands in June 2023).

You can access the ConvertMate app in the Shopify App Store or via its website. In both instances, there's a free 14-day trial, which you can use to test it out before deciding whether it’s for you.

How to Get Started with ConvertMate

To hit the ground running with ConvertMate, you need to follow these three steps:

1. Sign Up With Shopify

If you haven't already, you need to create a Shopify account (separate charges apply).

Alternatively, if you own a Shopify store, you just need to install the ConvertMate Shopify app via the Shopify App Store.

2. Brand Settings

Once you’ve created your ConvertMate account, tell them your brand's tone of voice and target audience. Unsurprisingly, ConvertMate needs these details to identify your ideal customers to engage with them effectively.

3. Generate Product Descriptions

Once ConvertMate has information about your products, it analyzes them and updates your product descriptions. Don't worry; if you don't like the changes, you can revert to your original descriptions whenever you want.

ConvertMate’s Core Features

Now we've covered the groundwork, let’s go into more detail about ConvertMate's core features:

Product Description Generator Tool

As mentioned a couple of times already, ConvertMate tracks how well your store is performing and identifies areas for improvement. With that information in hand, it generates optimized product descriptions for you.

How? Via its product description generator.

I tested this tool on ConvertMate's website and gave ConvertMate some basic information about my preferred:

  • Tone of voice: I could choose from a list of descriptions via a drop-down menu. Examples include friendly, authentic, professional, bold, trustworthy, trendy, etc.
  • Target audience: I could tell ConvertMate who my target market is, for example, “parents,” “people who like health and beauty,” “eco-conscious Gen Z,” and so on.
  • What my product is about: In the box provided, type in as much information as possible about your product. ConvertMate will use this to craft an SEO-friendly and compelling product description.

Then, click the “Generate Description” button, type in your email address, and watch as ConvertMate generates your description.

You'll also receive a product report by email with a suggested SEO meta title and meta description (more on this in a second). However, you only receive this once you’re signed up to ConvertMate (please note: you need a Shopify store to access ConvertMate's free trial).

When I tested ConvertMate via its website, I asked ConvertMate to use a:

Trendy tone of voice to an eco-conscious Gen Z audience about trousers that are made with recycled natural materials

Below, you’ll see the product description ConvertMate generated:

At this point, it's worth noting that once you have a ConvertMate account, you can do all the above via your dashboard.

Enhanced SEO

As mentioned above, ConvertMate sends suggested meta titles and descriptions for your product page based on the info you give them. It also provides advice on the best URL handles and product titles and keywords suggestions that perform well in SEO for their ads.

These suggestions aim to:

  • Improve your SEO strategy
  • Encourage a higher click-through rate (CTR)
  • Improve your ad scores
  • Increase conversions
  • Reduce your costs-per-click (CPC)

Marketing Calendar

ConvertMate understands the importance of modifying product descriptions at different times of the year. For example, to encourage sales during prime shopping seasons like Christmas, Black Friday, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, etc.

ConvertMate automatically aligns with your marketing calendar and updates product descriptions to reflect busier shopping seasons and events to help boost sales.

Advanced Analytics

ConvertMate's advanced analytics provide the data you need to make more strategic decisions about your product descriptions.

The ConvertMate pixel tracks user behaviors across your store to offer insights about which product descriptions generate sales and which don't so you can optimize your descriptions accordingly.

ConvertMate Dashboard

ConvertMate Review

From ConvertMate's dashboard, you can view the following:

  • The dashboard homepage: Here, you can see metrics like total revenue, number of orders, and recent ConvertMate news
  • Your account: Here, you can add your contact details and view your billing information
  • Branding: Here's where you provide ConvertMate with information about your brand (tone of voice, target audience, and what you want ConvertMate to do, such as generate meta titles, descriptions, SEO-friendly URLs, shorter product titles, and so on.
  • A list of all your products: You can view which products have generated new descriptions. Just click on the product name to see the new meta title and product description. You’ll also see the original description against the newly generated ConvertMate one for comparison.
  • Analytics: You can view your daily revenue and sales and average weekly revenue. To see more analytics per product and description, just select any of the products listed under the Products tab in your dashboard. On each product page, there’s an Actions button on the right-hand side; click that and select ‘Analytics’ for that particular product.

ConvertMate Pricing

ConvertMate’s pricing structure is pretty simple. After the 14-day free trial, there’s one all-inclusive pricing plan that can be paid annually or monthly:

  • Annual price: $74/month ($890 total), representing a 17% discount
  • Monthly price: $89/month

In either case, you receive:

  • Unlimited product updates
  • Unlimited number of orders
  • Advanced analytics and insights
  • Dedicated success manager
  • 24/7 support

ConvertMate Customer Support and Resources

To contact ConvertMate, email [email protected].

Its website also has a Resources section, but this is very limited. It includes a blog and use case examples of businesses that may benefit from using ConvertMate (more about this in our FAQ).

The blog includes tips and insights on AI and eCommerce strategies, such as how to avoid common mistakes when writing product descriptions and top SEO trends for 2024.

Overall, ConvertMate’s resources section is scant, as is its information on customer support. However, this may improve over time because it’s such a new product.

ConvertMate Pros and Cons

Pros

  • ConvertMate could potentially save you tons of time you would have otherwise spent manually optimizing product descriptions for SEO and engagement.
  • Its pricing structure is pretty transparent.
  • There’s a 14-day free trial.
  • The dashboard is easy to navigate.
  • The product description generator is fast, and at first glance, descriptions are compelling.
  • Shopify store owners give it a resounding five out of five-star rating (however, at the time of writing, this was only based on four reviews!)
  • The aforementioned reviews praise ConvertMate for its excellent customer support, high-quality product descriptions, and a boost in conversion rates.

Cons

  • ConvertMate is a very new app, and therefore, there’s minimal information available online.
  • Although you can test its product description generator, you can’t go any further unless you have a Shopify store.

ConvertMate Frequently Asked Questions

Before I wrap up my ConvertMate review, I’ll endeavor to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about this tool:

What types of businesses use ConvertMate?

Pretty much any type of Shopify business that relies on product descriptions to generate sales could benefit from ConvertMate.

More specifically, if you run a dropshipping business, you might use ConvertMate to improve the generic product descriptions provided by your dropshipping supplier.

Does ConvertMate work with any other platform apart from Shopify?

At the time of writing, ConvertMate is aimed mainly at Shopify store owners. However, its website does state that it may partner with more ecommerce platforms such as Magento, BigCommerce, and WooCommerce in the future – so watch this space!

Which languages does ConvertMate support?

At the time of writing, ConvertMate supports 20+ languages.

Can you cancel ConvertMate at any time?

In short, yes. Apparently, you can cancel your ConvertMate subscription whenever you want with just as little as two clicks.

ConvertMate Review: My Final Verdict

Hopefully, my ConvertMate review has provided enough information to help you decide whether you want to sign up for its free trial.

Remember: you can’t access all its features unless you have a Shopify store to connect to. So, if you don’t have a Shopify store and don’t plan on launching one anytime soon, ConvertMate probably won’t be the best fit for you.

Ultimately, the decision is yours. However, ConvertMate seems like a decent proposition for Shopify store owners of different sizes, including those utilizing dropshipping who may want to avoid repeating bland manufacturer product descriptions.

However, for those just starting out, $89 a month might be a bit on the pricey side. So perhaps this tool is best suited to more established businesses looking to streamline their operations.
